Harold F. Bardon

Harold F. Bardon, age 89, of 1309 Kochs Lane, Quincy, (formerly of 1217 Locust) died Saturday February 7, 2009 at 10:30 p.m. in St. Vincents Home.

He was born November 2, 1919 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Peter and Minnie Ellerbrake Bardon. On February 28, 1942, he married Alvera Stegeman in the St. Francis Catholic Church Parsonage by Father Thomas A. Rust. She survives.

He served in World War II in the U. S. Army as a Sgt. in the 986th Engr. Squadron in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre from June 15, 1942 to November 10, 1945. He attended Brayton Trade School in St. Louis, MO. He retired in 1985 after over 35 years as owner and operator of Bardon Body Shop. He was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. Harold was a lifetime member and past President of North Side Boat Club, a past member of Quincy Auto Service Association, U.C.T., Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fishermans Club, Triple Oaks Club and an active member of American Legion Post #37.

Survivors in addition to his wife include: 2 daughters, Barbara Bockhaus, Quincy; Nancy Friye and her husband Thomas, Quincy; 5 grandchildren, David Bockhaus and his wife Laurie, San Leandro, CA; Cathy Bockhaus Towl and her husband Brandon, University City, MO; Todd Friye and his wife Dee, Quincy; Travis Friye and his wife Pam, Quincy; and Trevor Friye and his wife April, Quincy; 6 great grandchildren, Larissa Bockhaus, Hammond, LA; Austin, Logan, Noah, Jonah and Joshua Friye all of Quincy; and Hayden Towl of University City, MO; a sister Renetta Arms, Branford, CT; a cousin Valera Eland, Plymouth, MI; and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Bruce Bardon, killed in action in Viet Nam; 3 sisters Larina Meyer and her husband Art; Norma Bardon and Hazel Oster and her husband Marvin; 2 brothers, Arthur and Leroy and his wife Florence; and a son-in-law Roger Bockhaus.

Funeral Service: Will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Chaplain Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear

Memorials: St. Vincent's Activity Fund, Quincy Humane Society, or Salvation Army.
