Richard M. Etheridge, age 62, formerly of 635 Van Buren, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 8:08 a.m. in his home.
He was born June 29, 1946 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Everett and Mary Miller Etheridge.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the purple heart. He was employed for 30 years at Caterpillar. He was a Nascar fan and was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt. Richard enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a very generous guy and went out of his way to help people in need.
Survivors include four children, Richard M. "Rick" Etheridge of Quincy, John Carter of Peoria, IL, Stephanie Lewis of Quincy, and Susan Carter of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Abbie Carter and Brendon Potter, both of Peoria, Tiffany and Paige Snyder of Quincy, Kimberly, Trisha, and Aaron Corbet of Alexis, IL; a brother, Gary Etheridge of Galesburg, IL; his cat, Butch; and his dog, Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Elaine Corbet, and a grandson, Lehi Snyder.
Services: Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 10:00 am in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Tammy Jeans officiating.
Visitation: Thursday, March 5 from 9 to 10 am at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
