John E. Ewing, age 81, of 1310 Sycamore Street, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at 12:40 am in Blessing Hospital.

John was born November 29, 1932 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Emery W. and Clara Landwher Ewing. He married Lois Richmond on July 4, 1959 in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.

John was a graduate of Liberty High School. He served in the Untied States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. John worked as a print operator for Packaging Corporation for 26 years. He also worked for Blessing Hospital from where he retired in 2002.  He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Bruce (Monica) Ewing of Quincy; five grandchildren, Megan (fiancé Colby Rainbolt) Ewing of Quincy, Morgan (Matt Harrigan) Ewing of Darwin, Australia, MacKenzie (Steven DeLonjay) Ewing of Quincy, and Quinton (Demi Baker) and Austin Ewing, both of Quincy; a great-granddaughter, Willow Marie Rainbolt, of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Arthur, Ralph, Harry and Robert Ewing, and a sister, Ellen Steinkamp.

Services: 11:00 am Friday, August 29, 2014 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
