"So sorry to lose Mae. She was a very spirited lady and you knew exactly where you stood with her. Smart and very dedicated to her children and grand children. I spent a lot of time with Mae and Dick at QHS girls soccer games watching my daughter Paige and Jenny Dreasler. She was a great benefactor for Quincy and she will be missed."

"You couldn't do any better than to have Dick and Mae Shierling on your team. They were a pair of hard working, positive role models who did great things for so many they touched. For me, the Shierlings always had smile and a comment or two. One of my fondest memories of Mae was the time she sat next to me while I was broadcasting a QHS/QND boys soccer game. She coached, cajoled and commented (about the officials) all through the game and kept waiting for me to respond--which I couldn't at the time--because I was on the air. (we caught up at half-time) My thoughts and prayers go to the Shierling family--and to all those lucky enough to have known them. Dick and Mae were the best! God Bless"

"To my cousins Cheryl Anne, Cynthia, & Greg, I am sadden to learn of Aunt Mae?s passing as she and Dick were such an important part of the Clark family as well as the Quincy community. I cannot think of the family gatherings that we use to have in Indiana without thinking of all of you included. I last saw Dick & Mae at Uncle Andy?s 80th birthday party in Batesville and they were just as I remembered them from our younger days. I will be thinking about all of you in the next few days and hope that someday we can find the time to reunite. Jeff Clark - Jacksonville, FL"

"Dear Cheryl, Greg and Cynthia, It saddens my heart over the loss of Aunt Mae, and knowing the void that it will leave in you and your children. I have great memories of both your mom and dad especially when I would spend some of the summer months with them when I was just a kid myself. May the Lord fill the emptiness of your hearts' at the passing of your mom and fill your hearts' with His love, joy, peace, and happiness. By the grace of God your mom and dad are finally in spirit reunited once again."

Your family was a part of my life in many ways. Cheryl, I was your #1 follower in many escapades on College street. We spent many happy hours playing at your house and your Mom let us do about anything. We even painted the murial on the basement walls. Know that I am keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. "Dearest Cheryl, Cynthia and Greg, Your loss is my loss at a core level as Aunt Mae's passing tugs at my heart so deeply. I will always remember Aunt Mae as a gracious and loving person, and as the very strong woman she learned to become. My imagination causes me to see Aunt Mae along with Uncles Read, Mayhew and Andy and that they and my mom Eddie are all playing Rook or some such thing. I am on the West Coast and will not be able to return until November 7. Try to rest and know that my heart and prayers are with you."

"I'm part of the Indiana Shierlings altho I now live in Maryland. I knew Dick and Mae when he came back from the service and moved into the house across from where I was growing up, probably late 1950s/early 1960s. Dick, the engineer, taught me to use a slide rule. I mowed their yard. Mae's funeral is October 2. I still remember the shock of Dick's farm accident, October 3, 1961. Later came the move to Quincy and their new lives."
