Ruth Rems

Ruth Rems, age 92, formerly of 1220 Park Place, Quincy died on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 7:00 am in North Adams Home in Mendon.

She was born January 6, 1922 in Liepaja, Latvia the daughter of Alexander and Anna Yudousho Peterson-Antonous. On February 12, 1939 she married Peter Rems in Latvia. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2007.

Mrs. Rems left Latvia in 1944, and then left Germany in 1950 to come to the United States. She worked at Blessing Hospital as an OB Tech for 25 years. She was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ and attended Saint Raphael Orthodox Church and was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital.

Survivors include three children, Mark (Damoni) Rems of Denver, CO, Anna MacArthur of Mendon, and Zigrida Brown of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Nick Rems of Denver, CO, David Rems of Denver, CO, Dara Ann (Daryl Duesterhaus) MacArthur of Mendon, Stacey Jarrett of Barry, IL, Fred Robert (Michelle) MacArthur of Mendon, Darren (Jamie) MacArthur of Warsaw, IL, Angie Harper of Quincy, Melanie (Steven) Schertel of Quincy, IL; eight great-grandchildren, Haley Diane and Reece William Schertel, Ashley Harper, Cody MacArthur, Brandilee and Brittnee Jarrett, Kyle MacArthur, Jacob Jarrett; and two great-great grandchildren, Adian Harper and Savannah Jarrett.

In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Steven Antonous, and two sons-in-law, William Brown and Doug MacArthur.

Services: 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeremy Latzke officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 29, 2014 in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
