Robert Lewis Guthrie, 79, of 3301 E. Tower Road, left this life at 4:45 a.m. from North Adams Home in Mendon, IL on Saturday February 14, 2015.

Bob was born in Quincy, IL September 13, 1935. He was the son of Lewis Scott and Evelyn Elaine Epker Guthrie. On May 22, 1955 he married Deanne Hartle in Hannibal, MO at First Assembly of God Church. She survives.

Bob was a 1954 graduate of Quincy High School.  Bob also served in the army reserve for 8 years.  He was a retired Union Carpenter and received his 50 year pin in 2014.  He was the lead carpenter when he retired from the Illinois Veterans Home in 1998 where he had worked for nearly 20 years. He also owned and operated Gem City Drywall and worked for Hartle Construction in Hannibal from 1955-64 then moving back to Quincy in 1964 to work as a cabinet maker at Huck Manufacturing before founding his construction business in 1968.

Bob was a devoted family man and lived his life trying to help others. In his younger days he loved playing church league baseball. He was an avid weight lifter and fitness trainer many years before it became as popular as it is today. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years at First Assembly of God in Hannibal and later at Bethel Assembly of God in Quincy. He was involved in many church and area ministries, including Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship. He was a member at Faith Assembly of God in Quincy, IL at the time of his death.

In addition to his wife survivors include, a daughter, Sherry L. Hughett and her husband Michael of Owasso, OK; a son, Scott and his wife Carol (Howlett) Guthrie of Camp Point, IL; a son, Rob of Quincy; a sister, Joann Parkhill and her husband Philip of Quincy; a brother, Michael and his wife, Joan (Sorrell) Guthrie of Buchanan, GA; three grandchildren, Robert Hughett of Dallas, TX; Matthew Hughett of Owasso, OK, and granddaughter Allison (Hughett) Shepard and her husband Kyle, of Owasso, OK; also, many beloved nieces and nephews: Alan & Gary Parkhill of Parker, CO, Lisa (Parkhill) Tenk of Liberty, IL, Julie (Parkhill) Curry of Fowler, IL, Dawn (Parkhill) Travis of Warsaw, IL, Dan Guthrie of Orlando FL, Linda Guthrie of Gary, IN, and Jennifer Guthrie of Kansas City, MO.

Bob was preceded in death by his son Todd, and his parents.

Services: Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy with the Rev. Larry Connour officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, IL

Visitation: Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
