Dr. Monty P. Karoll, age 59, of Quincy, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 8:07 pm in Blessing Hospital.
Monty was born on September 23, 1955 in Carbondale, Illinois, the son of Leonard and Gloria Pearl Wallace Karoll. He married Laura Schiller on June 16, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois. She survives.
Monty attended Parkway Central High School. He graduated from Northwestern University and Northwestern University Medical School. He completed his residency at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. They moved to Quincy in 1986. Monty practiced as a radiologist with Dr. George Eversman at St. Mary Hospital and then with Dr. Alan Nichols and Clinical Radiologists at Blessing Hospital.
Monty took some time off and traveled extensively when his son, Sam, was young. He returned to work as a radiologist with Carthage, Pittsfield and Rushville Hospitals. Then he began his own practice, "Mobile Health", where he performed health screenings.
Monty was the President of Temple B'Nai Sholom for many years. He was a member of the Quincy Rotary Club, Breakfast Optimist Club, Lions Club, Gem City Breakfast Kiwanis Club, the Great River Referral Group, the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce and the Q-City Yarnies..
Survivors in addition to his wife, Laura, include his son, Sam Karoll of Quincy, his father, Leonard Karoll of Chesterfield, MO, a sister, Dr. Doreen (Stephen Quatrano) Karoll of Lexington, MO, a brother, Dr. Craig (Jan) Karoll of Virginia Beach, VA, two nieces and two nephews, Sarah and Alex Quatrano, Anna Karoll and Kyle Miller, and his pet Bolognese dog, Izzy.
Monty was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Pearl Wallace.
Services: 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rabbi Justin Kerber officiating.
Burial: Valley of Peace, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
