Donald Sorrill

Donald E. Sorrill, age 85, of 1711 N. 1073rd Lane, Liberty, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 6:43 am in Sunset Home.

Donald was born February 5, 1930 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Albert Edward and Edith McConnell Sorrill. He married Shirley Hillebrenner on August 7, 1955 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy. She survives.

Donald graduated from Liberty High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army for 21 months, during the Korean War. After the war, he joined his brother and father on the family dairy farm. He was a lifelong farmer in Adams County.

Donald was a member of the Adams County Farm Bureau, and the Adams FS Board, where he served as president. He was a member of the Liberty School Board for 11 years, and had served as the School Board President. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Liberty. Donald enjoyed camping and square dancing. He and Shirley were members of the Jim Dandies Square Dancers and the Travelers N Trompers Camping Club.

In 2013, Donald traveled with his daughter, Cindy, on the Great River Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by: five children, Mike (Kathy) Sorrill of Liberty, IL, Pamela (Danny) Fessler of Quincy, Cindy Sorrill of Liberty, IL, Mark (Terry) Sorrill of Liberty, IL, David (Kelly) Sorrill of Fowler, IL; ten grandchildren, Melissa, Amanda, and Jacob Sorrill, Angie (Gordy) Hultz, Andrea (Ben Huff) Fessler, Danielle Fessler, Heather (Donald) Riley, Stephanie (John) Riley, Megan (fiancé Mark Schlepphorst) Sorrill, and Tanner Sorrill; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis (Lee) Farlow of Camp Point, IL, and Marjorie (Richard) Rabbitt of the Chicago area; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy Roe, and Ruth Koester, and a brother, Richard Sorrill

Services: 10:00 am Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Lois Sorrill and Rev. Sheri Renner officiating.

Entombment: Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday December 11, 2015 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Memorials: St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or Adams County Farm Bureau Foundation for Ag in the Classroom.
