Collette M. O'Brien, age 87, died Thursday (December 10, 2015) at 9:45 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Home.
She was born December 25, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Schnellbacher Echternkamp. On April 23, 1949, she married Thomas E. O'Brien in Quincy. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1996.
She was a 1945 Quincy High School graduate, and was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone before she was married. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Ladies of Charity.
Survivors include her children, Kate O'Brien, Quincy; Michael O'Brien and his wife Kathy (Klene), Warrenton, MO; Mary O'Brien, Quincy; Daniel O'Brien and his wife Toye (Williams), St. Robert, MO; and Dianne Pettit and her husband Steve, Pella, IA; 11 grandchildren, Meaghan Benner, Jennifer Thelen, Laura (Ryan) Stovie, Matt (Malerie)O'Brien, Christopher (Stacey) Schutte, Kimberly and Kyle Schutte, Patrick O'Brien, Robert, Thomas and Elizabeth Pettit; 11 great grandchildren, Brendehn and Zain Schutte, Corbin, Cayden, Maddox and Makayla Benner, Eastyn and Coltyn Schutte, Briana O'Brien, Mason and Jacob Stovie, and Matthew O'Brien, Jr.; and her brother William Echternkamp and his wife Charlene, Eugene, OR;
In addition to her husband, Collette also was preceded in death by two daughters Margaret "Maggie" O'Brien and Rita O'Brien, her brother Eugene Echternkamp, her sister, Kathleen Monahan, and two sisters-in-law Marilyn Echternkamp and Rosemary Mooney.
Services: Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2015 in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Kuse officiating.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery
Visitation: Sunday (December 13, 2015) from 2 until 5 pm at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
