In loving memory of

Jane E. Hagler
November 24, 2016

Jane E. Hagler passed away peacefully on 24 November 2016 at the age of 95 after a short illness. She was born on 30 November 1920 in Long Beach, California. Her father was a rancher in Southern California and her early years were spent on a ranch. When she was eight years old, her family moved north to the San Joaquin Valley in California where her family was engaged in ranching and farming.

In 1942 Jane graduated from the Knapp School of Nursing in Santa Barbara, California. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was commissioned as an officer in the Nurse Corps, U.S. Naval Reserve.

While working at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, she met a young intern named Carl W. Hagler. They were married in September of 1943. They moved to Denver, Colorado where Dr. Hagler was a resident in pediatrics. Later, the family moved to Topeka, Kansas, and, in 1947, the family re-located to Quincy where Dr. Hagler joined the Physicians and Surgeons Clinic.

During her lifetime, Jane was engaged in numerous church, school, and community activities, including the Scouting programs, American Red Cross Blood Bank, President of Chapter F, PEO, Atlantis, and the Women's Auxiliary to the Adams County Medical Society. Jane especially enjoyed her years working at the Quincy Museum.

In looking back on her life, Jane wrote:
"I've enjoyed my life's adventure. Because I don't believe that good-byes are forever, or that they should be sad affairs, I hope that you will remember only happy things today. Please know that I've had a fine life, filled with many memories of people that count the most-friends and family."

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John B. Harbell and Carroll O. Harbell, Jr., and a grandson Trevor Lewis Olson. She is survived by three children, John H. Hagler of Dallas, TX; Susan Hamm of Challis, Idaho; and William Carl Hagler (Laura Hagler, daughter in law) of Galesburg, IL. Survivors also include grandchildren Erika Marie Granic, Theresa Anne Hughes, Avenlee May Hagler, Matthew Louis Hagler, Ashley Hagler Foster (Jeff), Sarah Hagler Thompson (Brian), Caleb Clevenger, Christopher Clevenger, and Brandon Davis. Also, great grandchildren Savannah Marie Granic, Connor Quincy Foster, Ayden Hagler, and Alexice Drawyer. In addition, Sabrina Ann Hagler, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends.

No funeral services will be conducted, but a visitation will be held on Monday, 28 November 2016, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the Hagler Family asks that donations be made to the Dr. Carl Hagler Scholarship Fund at the Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences.

The Hagler Family also expresses gratitude to the staff members at Blessing Hospital for their medical treatment of Jane during her hospitalization.
