Rita Mae Davis, 81, of Quincy, was called to her heavenly home, at 9:29 pm, Thursday, April 27, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
Rita was born May 8, 1935, in Quincy. She was the sixth of eleven children born to Leonard and Frances Crowe Cramsey. She was a 1953 graduate of Liberty High School. She married Kenneth "Kenny" E. Davis on April 27, 1957, in St. Francis Solanus Church in Quincy. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1998.
Rita was a devoted Mother and Grandmother who loved her family with all her being. She was a homemaker and also worked many part-time jobs during her children's school days, so she could be home to send them off to school and be there when they returned. Some may remember her as the Pizza Hut lunchtime waitress, as she spent 15 years working there until her retirement in 1989. At that time she became the full-time caretaker, in the home, for her two sons Doug and Clint. She worked tirelessly, always putting their needs above hers, giving selflessly to provide excellent care for them in every way, to make life the best it could be as they suffered from the debilitating disease of Muscular Dystrophy. Clint and Doug preceded her in death on April 17, 2007 and August 16, 2013 respectively. We can never thank her enough for the special care they received.
When grandchildren came along, she always made time to share very special bonding moments with them, whether playing ball outside, playing a game, putting a puzzle together or having an overnight bunking party. Each one had a special place in her heart and she loved them dearly. She was also able to spend time, love, and play with her great grandchildren.
She made holidays special as well, as we all gathered at our childhood home to share special meals cooked solely by her.
In her later years as she began to suffer with Alzheimer's, her daughter Janet was privileged and honored to be able to care for her and make it possible for her to stay in her own home until her death.
Rita accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour in 1990 and later began attending Calvary Baptist Church, where she met many new friends.
She was the loving mother of four surviving children, Randy and his wife Cherlyn of Maywood, MO, Terry and his wife Mary of Swansea, IL, Janet and her husband Dan Leeds of Quincy, and Joe and his wife Shari, of Quincy. Loving grandmother to four grandchildren, Stacy and her husband Joe Houghton, Suzie and her husband Jeremy Childress, Cory Davis and his wife Jessica, Justin Davis and his fiancée Caitlin Craig, all of Quincy. Also, Michelle (Jim) Downing of Champaign, IL, Malissa (Danny) O'Hara of Bellville, IL, Josh Snider of Quincy and Brooke (Adam) Sieb of Kirkwood, MO. Twelve great grandchildren, Jake and Lexi Houghton, Alyvia and Logan Childress, Corbin, Adrianna and Emma Davis, and Zoey Reno-Davis. Also, Madisyn Echevarria, Brayden O'Hara, Aiden Snider and Nolan Bridgeman. She is also survived by three sisters, Rosie (Terry) Madison, Joan (Joe) Leindecker, and Jean Frericks, two sister-in-laws, Jean Cramsey and Marcia Cramsey, and one brother-in-law, Dick Veihl, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and two sons, Rita was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Marian (Bernie) Ormond, Lenny Cramsey, Don (Joann) Cramsey, Fran Veihl, Bob (Barb) Cramsey, Ken (Barb) Cramsey, Bill Cramsey, and a brother in-law Mike Frericks.
