Edith Lillian Berkowitz, a 55-year resident of Quincy, passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Edith was born October 15, 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Frank and Clara Resnikov Greenblatt. She married Abe Berkowitz of Quincy on November 11, 1951 in Newton, MA. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1998.
She graduated from Jeremiah Burke High School in Dorchester, MA in 1942. Before getting married she worked as a bookkeeper in Boston. In Quincy Edith was the owner for many years of Edie's & More Edie's, a children's clothing store on Maine Street. She was a member of Temple B'Nai Shalom, a past treasurer at the Temple, a member of the Temple Sisterhood and a long time volunteer at Blessing Hospital.
Edith is survived by four children, Ken Berkowitz of Sioux City, IA, Susan (Frank) Ley of Edwardsville, IL, Paul (Sandra) Berkowitz of Brookline, MA, and David (Lana) Berkowitz of Baytown, TX and grandchildren, Jessica Ley, Jacob (Christina) Ley, Gabriel (Sydney) Berkowitz, Zachary Berkowitz, Emily (Mark Sigal) Berkowitz, Benjamin Berkowitz, and Daniel Berkowitz and great-grandchildren, Dani Berkowitz, McKenzie Ley and Nolan Ley.
In addition to her husband Abe, Edith was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Services: 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Valley of Peace Cemetery, with Mike Saul officiating.
Burial: Valley of Peace, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: The family will visit with friends following the graveside services at the Temple B'Nai Shalom (427 N. 9th Street).
