Betty L. Quade of Laguna Niguel, California, and formerly of Quincy, IL died Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:15 a.m. at her residence, Aegis of Laguna Niguel.
Betty was born in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Dr. Silber C. and Ruth (Pearce) Peacock. She studied at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL for one year and transferred to State University of Iowa in Iowa City, obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching. She then earned her Master of Arts degree in speech pathology from the University of Illinois.
On August 10, 1951 Betty married Merritt J. Quade, DDS in Quincy, Illinois. Dr. and Mrs. Quade resided in Quincy where Dr. Quade practiced dentistry for 58 years. Following their marriage, Betty worked as a speech pathologist with hearing impaired students in the Quincy Public Schools.
Betty had a life-long love for helping others, and is well known for her generosity and volunteerism. She served as a volunteer for a number of local organizations, including the Blessing Hospital Tea Room and Salvation Army. At the First Union Congregational Church, she was an active member and volunteer, enjoyed teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir, and for many years chaired the annual church bazaar.
Betty was a talented musician who played the violin and piano, and possessed a beautiful soprano voice. She played in the Quincy Symphony, and was a strong advocate and benefactor of education and the arts in Quincy. Betty loved teaching violin, and provided free private lessons to talented young musicians and to children who would not have had access to private instruction. She obtained instruments for children when needed with the stipulation that students could keep the violins as long as they continued to play and enjoy music.
Betty was a member of Quincy Country Club where she regularly enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She was additionally a devoted member of PEO for over 50 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Quade Rasulo and husband Thomas of Mission Viejo, CA; a daughter-in-law, Louise First Quade; a sister, Nancy Peacock Hockgraver of Williamsfield, IL; four grandchildren, Sara Quade (Dannon) Coleman of Kansas City, MO, Thomas Rasulo Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Justina First (Adam) Timm of St. Charles, MO, and Kim Walsh of San Clemente, CA; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Timm of St. Charles, MO.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dr. Merritt Quade, and son Dr. Kevin Quade.
Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Major Andrew Miller officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
Memorials: Salvation Army Hometown Endowment Fund or American Brain Tumor Association. The family has respectfully requested memorials in lieu of flowers.

"Getting to know Betty when her mother Mrs Peacock was on Long Term Care was such a joy. She always was there to help with any activity that I had planned for the residents. She was so giving of her time & support to the unit. She would bake endlessly to help with our bake sales on the unit. To help with the bake sales, she signed herself & me up for cake decorating classes together & to my surprise she had sent all my supplies for class to me prior to class. I still use them when baking for some of our local nursing homes & thinking of her & the friendship we had. She leaves a legacy of her many talents & her generosity to everything she was involved in. You will be missed. Thoughts & prayers to all the family."
