David Patrick "Pat" Clow, age 93, of 418 Washington, Quincy, died on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 7:05 am in Sunset Home.
Pat was born March 17, 1924 in Quincy, Illinois, the six of eight children, of Leo and Emma Steffey Clow. He married Inez Evelyn Carder, of Knox County, Missouri, on June 25, 1948. He later married Carolyn Tournear on September 18, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2011.
Pat was a 1942 graduate of Quincy High School. On December 7, 1941 he was serving with the United States Navy on the U.S.S.Antares at Pearl Harbor and then served on the U.S.S. Wisconsin during World War II. He was called back to active duty for the Korean Conflict and served on the U.S.S. Uhlman as a Gunner's Mate First Class.
Pat worked as a bartender for 14 years at the Cuckoo Clock. He worked for many years caponizing chickens, during the summers with his children, in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Pat was also employed at Gem City Transfer for several years. From 1965 to 1991 he was a truck driver at the Illinois Veterans Home and also worked at private parties around Quincy as a bartender for a number of years.
Pat was a member of the First Christian Church, the Twin Oaks Club, and American Legion Post #37. He was a former member of Bodley Lodge. He loved to fish, garden and travel in his R.V.
Survivors include two children, Kent (Peggy) Clow of Olathe, KS, and Patti (Richard) McNay of Quincy; three grandchildren Alexandra (David) Marold of Fayetteville, NC, Mia McNay of Milwaukee, WI, and Anna McNay of Quincy; two sisters Elda Setters of Colmesneil, TX, Wilmena "Billie" Altheide of Quincy; numerous nieces and nephews; two stepdaughters Lori Thomas of Quincy and Leann (Rich) Buss of Gold Hill, OR; numerous step-grandchildren; and step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Pat was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Emery "Jack" Clow, Edward Leo Clow, and Frederick "Fritzie" Clow, two sisters, Jane Wheeler Davis and Mary Beth VanBlair, and a step-daughter, Kimberly Lennox.
Friends and family are invited to write a personal or private message to Pat that you may place in the casket with him during the visitation.
Services: 11:00 am on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois with full military honors conducted by the Payson VFW Post #2061.
Visitation: 9:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the Clow family suggests memorials to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund or the Sunset Home Activities Fund.
