Rose Darlene Beckman

Rose Darlene Beckman, age 96, of Coralville, IA and formerly of 1822 Oak St., Quincy, died Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at 3:30 pm in Lantern Park Specialty Care.

Darlene was born August 10, 1921 in her grandmother's home in Liberty, Illinois, the daughter of Earl John and Kathryn Roach Welsh. She married her childhood sweetheart, Eugene J. Beckman, on August 31, 1940 in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2011.

Darlene had worked for Motorola for over twenty years. After her retirement from Motorola, she ran a day care from her home. Darlene was very active, and in her 80s, she started working at Maid Rite, where she was well known for her delicious pies and salads. She was a member of the Eagles Ladies' Auxiliary, where she held the position of Secretary until she moved to Iowa. She was also a very active and devoted member of St. Francis Solanus Church. Darlene was always serving the parish, whether it was serving funeral luncheons, hosting card parties, or helping with bazaars. In her spare time, she and her husband loved traveling and taking Sunday drives. Darlene will always be remembered as a caring and compassionate woman who saw the good in everyone and lived her motto, "Take one day at a time."

Survivors include: three children: Gary (Dee Warson) Beckman of Tiffin, IA; Linda (Ronald) Hinkamper of Quincy; and John E. Beckman of Quincy; eight grandchildren: Mike Schwada and Paul (Mary) Schwada, all of Beaverton, OR; Gary Jr. (Carol) Beckman and Todd Beckman, all of Iowa City, IA; Russell "Russ" (Anna) Hinkamper of Quincy; Robin (Gary) Cimera of Centralia, IL; and Renea Henning and Ryan Hinkamper, both of Quincy; three step grandchildren: Ron (Hope) Krebill of Kansas City, KS; Brian Warson of Donaldson, IA; and Alana Warson of Tiffin, IA; 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Darlene was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan McMahill; a great-grandson, John Michael Cimera; her parents; and three brothers: Francis, Howard, and Floyd Welsh.

Services: 10:00 am Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at St. Franics Solanus Catholic Church, with Father John Titus officiating.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. on Monday September 4, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Memorials: Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis, MO, Hospice of Iowa City, or St. Francis Solanus Church
