E. Virginia Foster, age 97, of Quincy, died on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 7:32 a.m. in her home.
She was born January 21, 1921 in Barry, Illinois the daughter of Joseph F. and Ruth Potter Redshaw. February 5, 1940 she married Daniel M. Foster Keytesville, MO. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1998, after 58 years of marriage.
Virginia was raised on a farm North of Barry, IL. She graduated from Barry High School in 1938 and from Western Illinois Teachers College in 1940. She then went on to teach all eight grades in a one room school house in Pike County. Virginia was a very sought-after substitute elementary teacher in Quincy public schools for over 40 years, and she was requested by teachers and principals alike. Virginia enjoyed teaching, and she loved the children. However, her first love was her family, and she made her husband, her son and his wife, and her grandchildren and great grandchilden her number one priority. Virginia embodied what it meant to be a wife, a mother, a mother-in-law, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. She was a kind and thoughtful person who knew no enemies. She will be greatly missed.
Virginia was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ.
Survivors include her son, Michael (Cindy) J. Foster of Quincy; three grandchildren: Lisa (Tony) Kline of Overland Park, KS; Laura (Keith) Carter of Austin, TX; and David (Aimee) Foster of St. Louis, MO; six great grandchildren: Evan, Landon, and Parker Kline; Sadie Virginia Carter; and Daniel and Henry Foster; and a nephew, Greg (Jen) Redshaw of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother William.
Services: 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Burial: Parklawn Cemetery, Barry, IL
Memorials: Quincy Public School Foundation or Salvation Army Hometown Endowment Fund.
