Daryl L. "Sparky" Ballard, of Quincy, died Monday, May 7, 2018 in his home.
Daryl was born January 1, 1940 in La Harpe, Illinois, the son of George L. and Velna Lee Parris Ballard. He married Janet L. "Sally" Lehner on September 22, 1961 in Quincy, IL. She survives.
Daryl was an avid racing fan and he enjoyed attending local dirt track races at Quincy Raceways. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, and the late Dale Ehrnhardt Sr. was his favorite driver. Daryl and Janet were members of Madison Park Christian Church where he served as Scout Leader for local Troop #56. He worked for many years at Huck Fixture Company in Quincy. Daryl was very artistic man, and in his spare time he enjoyed sketching and drawing. He also enjoyed working with his hands and was a fine craftsman.
Along with his wife, Daryl is survived by three sons, Tony L. Ballard of Quincy, IL, Bill R. (Mary Ann) Ballard and Daryl L. (Angie) Ballard, both of Mendon, IL; eight grandchildren, Mitchell and Logan Ballard, both of Quincy, Brandi (Cody) MacArthur and Kasie (Jeremy) Totsch, both of Liberty. IL, Alisha (Josh) Peters of Fowler, IL, Ashley (Jeremy) Orr, Christopher (Danielle) Robertson, and Riley Jones, all of Quincy; five great-grandchildren, Addy Weber of Mendon, Thomas Robertson, and Abel and Jordyn Orr, all of Quincy, and Kara Jo Totsch of Mendon; a brother, Bill (Georgian) Ballard of Quincy; a sister, Geri (Bill) Hale of Saint Louis, MO; and a brother-in-law, Max (Sandra) Lehner of Texas.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Rochell Stanbridge, and a granddaughter, Emily Ballard
Services: 10:00 am Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Henry Pratt officiating.
Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 4 - 7 pm on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
