Richard "Whitey" Bourne

Richard K. "Whitey" Bourne, age 75, of Quincy, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at 7:36 pm in Sunset Home.

Whitey was born July 31, 1942 in Quincy, the son of Harry C. and Edna Rebecca Padgett Bourne. He married LaVonne Miller on November 14, 1064 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. She survives.

Whitey had been a volunteer firefighter for the Mendon Volunteer Fire Department. Whitey had been employed by several manufacturing plants, including Moorman Manufacturing and Electric Wheel. He also did some roofing work on the side, and he had his own painting business for a while. He loved tending a big garden, where he raised all sorts of vegetables, included tomatoes, radishes, and pumpkins. Whitey was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR fan. He was a member of St. Francis Solanus Church, where he served as an usher.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons: Kent, John, and Paul (Billie) Bourne, all of Quincy; three grandchildren: Alan, Amanda, and Jazmin Bourne, all of Quincy; a great granddaughter, Aubree Bourne; a sister, Shirley Kohring of Hernando, FL; three adoptive brothers: Donnie (Joyce) Stoneking of Basco, IL; Ronnie (Kitty) Stoneking of Burlington, IA; and Arlo Stoneking of Hamilton, IL; and several nices and nephews.

Whitey was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alan, in infancy; his brother, Harry Bourne; and a adoptive brother, Marion Stoneking.

Services: 9:30 prayers on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
