John W. Merker, age 81, of Curtis Creek Retirement Living, died Wednesday May 23, 2018 at 2:28 p.m. in Sunset Home.

John was born July 1, 1936 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Donald and Wilma Boge Merker. He was formerly married to June Holm.

He worked on the home farm with his parents. John then started to work at Moorman Manufacturing from 1966 till his retirement in 1995. He loved restoring and showing off his antique cars.

John in survived by three children, Vicki Franklin, Bruce Merker, and Leslie (Robert) Doane, all of Quincy; six grandchildren, Erin Wood, Kylie Baker, Brandon Merker, Jayme Hagerbaumer, Jason Doane, and Ashley Hudson; six great-grandchildren, Silvia and John Baker, Hannah Merker, Emma and Eden Hagerbaumer, and Ryder Hudson; a brother, Daniel Merker; two sisters, Donna Walton and Barbara Rokita; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, William Kent Merker.

Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hayden officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
