Thelma Maxine Schaffer, age 92, formerly of Quincy, died Friday, July 20, 2018, at 3:56 am in Timber Point Health Care Center in Camp Point, Illinois.
Thelma was born May 31, 1926 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Frank Henry and Nellie Jane Tinsley Wittkopf. She married Paul Leroy Schaffer on February 17, 1945 in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2016.
She was a graduate of Emerson High School in Emerson, MO. She had worked at Motorola and had been a cook at St. James Lutheran School as well as being a housewife.
She was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include four children, Ronald D. Schaffer of Wataga, IL, Evelyn K. (Frank) Cermack of The Villages, FL, Larry P. Schaffer of Quincy, and Kevin C. Schaffer of Quincy; seven grandchildren Paula, Tammy, Andy, Marcey, Kenny, Lindsay and Lexi; four great-grandchildren, Paige, Brooke, Reece and Wil.
In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, Helen Louise Wingerter, Frederick Wittkopf, Glenn Wittkopf, Dorothy Churchwell, Robert Wittkopf, and Frank Wittkopf, Jr., her daughter-in-law, Connie Schaffer, and a great grandson, Alex.
Graveside Services: 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in Greenmount Cemetery with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating.
Visitation: there will be no visitation, but friends are invited to the graveside service
Memorials: St James Lutheran Church or St. James Lutheran School
