Peggy Liebig

Peggy 'Peg' O. Liebig, age 95, of Quincy, died Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 12:55 p.m. in Good Samaritan Home.

Peg was born May 9, 1923 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph L. and Edie Manns Shiley. She married Richard A. Liebig on August 4, 1946 in Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy and had the good fortune to be married for 72 years. He preceded her in death January 18, 2018.

Peg was a graduate of Warsaw High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Illinois, where she met Rich. Peg was a long-time member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, and she was a member of the Double Ring Class and Circle. She was a member and supporter of AFS, PEO, YMCA, Blessing Auxiliary, and the Quincy Museum. She enjoyed volunteering in the community, cooking, sewing, crafting, bridge clubs, antiques, baking, travel, and spending time with family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren - both the two-footed and four-footed varieties. Peg served as Brownie and then Girl Scout leader for many years. She was selected as the YWCA Woman of the Year  2001 for her years of service teaching citizenship and English as a second language classes.

Survivors include her two daughters, Lynn (Phil) Cheeseman of West Lafayette, IN; and Ann (Tom) Hartman of Jerseyville, IL; three grandchildren: Cyrus R. (Jasmina) Cheeseman of Carmel, IN; David R. (Gary) Cheeseman of Columbus, OH; and Rachel A. Cheeseman of Tucson, AZ; a great-granddaughter, Maya; her sister-in-law, Gayle Liebig of Quincy, three nieces: Nancy (Mike) Ogle, Susan Huddleston and Debbie Liebig, all of Quincy; two great-nieces Michelle (Buddy) Benjamin and their son, Devon, Brandy (Corey) VonderHaar and their children Brooklyn and Blake; and a great-nephew, Travis (Kristen) Liebig, and their children, Jack and Abigail.

In addition to her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, John P. Liebig, and a nephew, John W. Liebig.

Services: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Chaplain James Riley officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Memorials: Vermont Street United Methodist Church, Quincy Museum, or Quincy Humane Society.
