Arnie L. Meyer
February 12, 1941 - March 10, 2019

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Algona with Reverend Cynthia Finn officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Arnie Lee Meyer was born February 12, 1941, in Algona, Iowa, the son of John and Helen (Boekelman) Meyer. He was raised on a farm near Wesley and attended country school and later graduated from the Britt High School in 1958. After his schooling he began working for the Iowa Department of Transportation.

On August 31, 1963, Arnie was united in marriage to Sharon Scott at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Following their marriage they lived in Algona where they raised their family. Arnie continued working for the Iowa DOT being stationed out of the Ames headquarters. He worked for the DOT for a total of 46 years, serving in numerous capacities, his latest as a supervisor in soil design.

Arnie was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, sitting around the campfire, gardening and woodworking. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed going to coffee in the mornings.

Arnie died Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was 78.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Algona; daughters, Julie (Greg) Starbeck of Cedar Falls; Jennifer (Doug) Larsen of Farmington, MN; grandchildren, Megan (Mathew) Lumetta; Morgan and Mattie Starbeck; Emily and Eli Larsen; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Jaxon, Andrew and Theodore Lumetta. Also surviving are siblings, Elaine Eckhoff of Britt; Luella (Robert) Lappe of Lake Mills; Shelly (Claude) Bilsborough of Titonka and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gladys (Joe) Herman; brother-in-law, James Eckhoff; niece, Janelle Cook and nephew, Steve Herman.
