KEVIN BRADLEY MEHLHAFF, 28, Seattle, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at his Seattle home. Kevin Bradley Mehlhaff was born May 15, 1990 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Bradley and Janan (Brown) Mehlhaff.
Kevin graduated from Robbinsdale Cooper High School, New Hope, MN in 2009, receiving the school's, Outstanding Senior Award. In 2013, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, earning a B.S. degree in Computer Science. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Kevin began his career as a software engineer at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington in 2013. He continued his career at Google Corporation's Bellevue office in December 2018.
Kevin enjoyed soccer, biking, snowshoeing, photography, playing video games, the opera, and the occasional golf game with Grandma. His living in Seattle inspired newfound passions for backpacking, hiking, camping, and mountain climbing. Kevin was an avid traveler as well, experiencing adventures in Europe, South America, and Japan. He especially loved his annual summer trips to national parks, including Rocky Mountain National Park (2014); Zion National Park, Bryce National Park, and Death Valley National Park (2015); Glacier National Park (2016, his favorite); Denali National Park (2017); Channel Islands National Park (2018); Banff National Park of Canada, Jasper National Park of Canada, and Yoho National Park of Canada (2018). Following his time in Denali National Park, Kevin concluded his 2017 summer exploits with "14-er Madness", climbing six 14,000 ft. Colorado mountains in just seven days. Kevin's wide circle of beloved friends were integral to all of his many interests.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Pat Mehlhaff, and Terry Brown. He is survived by his parents, Brad and Janan (Brown) Mehlhaff of New Hope, MN; his sister, Rachel Mehlhaff, of Minneapolis, MN; his grandmother, Marlene Brown, of Manly, IA; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98133, on March 22, 2019 from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 8208 18th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115, on March 23, 2019 at 12:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the services, the Family will host a luncheon in the church social hall. All are invited to attend. Funeral arrangements are provided by Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to 9109 31st Ave. N, Minneapolis, MN, 55427 and will be distributed by the Family at a later date.

"Kevin I will miss you bro. I have many memories of Kevin and I going to Sunny Hollow and also working at willow creek movie theater together. One memory I have is that we used to go to the casino after work and I always thought he could count cards because he was so smart but after losing my 50 bucks and his as well I figured out quickly he couldn't count cards and that we should keep our day jobs. "Brad, Janan, Rachel, and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Kevin and I met in our freshman year of college during our intro to computer science course. We were partners on our final project for that class, which was to create an artificial intelligence to play a game, which would then compete against those of other students. I remember one late night working on that project with him at Middlebrook Hall. I was hopelessly lost in the complexity of our own creation, but he managed to push the project over the finish line, and we ended up placing near the top of the class. He was such a smart guy. He was always my preferred lab partner in the classes we had together, not just for his intelligence, but also for his sense of humor and his ability to help me relax when I was stressed about the project. We continued to grow closer throughout college, and we were roommates for two years in a house in the Como neighborhood. I was so lucky to have a roommate who was also such a good friend. After college, I went to visit him a few times in Seattle. Every time I visited, he was such a gracious host and tour guide, always excited to show me his favorite spots in the city or some beautiful hiking trails. I remember when I visited in the Fall of 2016. He picked me up at the airport early in the morning on a Friday, and we drove a few hours to do some hiking in North Cascades National Park. We got to spend those hours catching up on each other's lives. We then drove back that night to spend time with his friends. He was always able to pack so much into those short trips. He had such an adventurous personality, and I wouldn't have gotten to do many of the things we did without his influence. I visited him again in the late summer in 2018, this time with my girlfriend, Megan. Again, he was such a generous host, allowing us to stay in his condo with him, and driving the three of us to several locations in Mount Rainier National Park, where we hiked several trails and marveled at the ancient trees on the Grove of the Patriarchs trail. It was truly a breathtaking sight, and we were so grateful for Kevin acting as our tour guide. Back in the city, he taught us how to use Lime bikes to see the sights. Unlike me, he was always so current on trends in technology, and it was always enlightening and entertaining to hear how he would describe them. Those are just a few memories of the time I spent with Kevin. I feel so lucky that I got to know him and be his friend. Both Megan and I will miss him so much, and we send our deepest condolences to your entire family and everybody else who loved him."
"I was deeply saddened to hear of Kevin's passing. I fondly remember him from his 5th grade days at Sunny Hollow. He was the Master of our Math Masters team that year. I was not surprised to see that he went on to achieve such success in school and his career. Not only did we share a love of math, but also a love of our national parks.
