Evangelos G. (Angelo) Poulos, MD, highly respected physician and loving father and grandfather, died Monday, March 18, 2019. He was 67 years old. Born November 17, 1951, in Washington, D.C., he was the adopted son of the late George E. Poulos Sr. and Nina Bacaling.
At a very young age, Angelo and his family relocated to South Florida. He graduated from Miami Norland Senior High School in 1969. Angelo earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. Angelo completed his medical residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Jackson Memorial hospital in Miami Florida. A brilliant and gifted dermatopathologist, teacher and mentor, he positively impacted many lives in the medical community.
Not only was he a passionate physician, Angelo was an avid numismatist and a talented vocalist. Throughout his life, he participated in church choirs, quartets and the Nova Singers. He often filled his office and home with his beautiful voice. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
It was at Jackson Memorial Hospital, during his first year of medical school, while working as an orderly, that Angelo met a beautiful young nursing student and the future love of his life, Melinda. He loved to tell the story of how, within a few short weeks, they met and married on August 31, 1973. Angelo and Melinda enjoyed 45 years together as husband and wife and have 5 children: Luke (and wife Georgette), Angela (and husband Brian), Nick (and wife Noelle), Alexis (and husband Jonathan), and Katherine; 13 grandchildren: Jonathan, Angelique, Valentina, Luke, Jessica, Joshua, Jackson, Micah, Elias, Corrie, Blaise, Evangeline and Penelope; and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

"I am very sorry to read about Angelo. He was an amazing soul. So kind at heart. May he sleep in peace. I came across this when I went searching for Luke, Angelo?s son. Another amazing person. They probably dont remember me but my mom use to work at a restaurant in front of Hialeah Park RaceTrack and I use to head over to the WhiteCross stable and I remember like it was yesterday riding around with Luke listening to rap music. They didnt even know my background they were so accepting and kind. Wish I had the chance to have been apart of stable longterm but I was just a kid. I hope the Poulos family is staying strong and knowing he?s resting with no pain and no worries. Luke, if you read this Thank you for the times you took me under your wing. you were a big brother figure to me when you were at the Hialeah park stable. wish we could have grown up together. I wouldve stayed out of trouble if you were around. Sorry for reaching out in this matter. Many apologies and My condolences
Sincerely,
Sergio Gil

"Evangelos Poulos was a strong supporter of the Jewish-American Hall of Fame, and had the most complete set of our gold medals in existence. I also considered him a friend, and always enjoyed talking to him on the phone. I will miss him. Sincerely, Mel Wacks "

"Dr. Evangelos Poulos was my dermatopathology program director last year. I sat with him every single day. He taught me so much, not only about dermatopathology, but about dermatology (of which I was already board certified, just to further reiterate the intelligence of this amazing man), and about life. Dr. Poulos was so kind. He greeted me everyday with a smile. He is the smartest man I know in the field of dermatopathology and it is such a blessing and honor that I was able to train under him. He had a true passion for his job and for teaching. He loved sharing his knowledge. His legacy will carry on in our specialty. He played such a big role in so many of us young physicians. His words and clinicopathological pearls at the scope will never be forgotten. Loosing a mentor is so hard. I regularly, as many of us did, turned to Dr. Poulos to assist in difficult cases in both dermatology and dermatopathology. He positively influenced so many lives; colleagues and patients. His memory will forever be carried on everyday by so many of us physicians whom he taught. Dr. Poulos also taught me about music and coins. His family was his whole heart. I send my deepest sympathies and love to his entire family. He spoke of you all often. I send strength to you to get through this difficult time and the days ahead. Dr. Poulos will be forever in my heart. I will carry his words, his lessons, with me throughout the rest of my career and life. Much love, Lacey Elwyn, DO"

"My family?s deepest sympathies and love to my brother?s family. We especially pray for Melinda, her grown children and grandchildren as well. We pray the Peace Of Jesus Christ upon us all as we mourn Angelo?s death. He was one of the most gifted Dermatopathogists, caring deeply for the doctors and patients he served. His love for medicine extended to his Alma Mater, the University of Miami and the Miller School Of Medicine, teaching Dermatology Residents and Pathology Residents the intricacies Of Dermatopathology. He also loved teaching at Nova Southeastern University as well, their Residents in Dermatology the wonders of Dermatopathogy. Angelo had one of the most vast collection of ?interesting cases? to share with all of his students and colleagues. Angelo longed for the day his oldest daughter would join him in the practice of Dermatopathology, and that day finally came. Our love, thoughts, and prayers to God are for all Angelo?s family, associates, clients, patients, as well as members of various Church congregations to which he belonged.
?Precious in the Sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.? Psalms 116:15. Lord, have mercy. Rest in eternal Peace, Angelo.
With love in Christ,
George, Ginger, Nina, James, Thomas, and Daniel Mark Poulos"
