Mary P. "Patti" Dunne, 71, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 27, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
Friends and family may gather in remembrance of "Patti" on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, where a 6:30 P.M. Prayer Service will be held. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Mary Patricia Kempter was born on January 14, 1948 in Dubuque, Iowa to Paul E. and Edna l. (Schuster) Kempter. As part of a military family she mostly grew up in Alaska, Casper, Wy and Bellevue, Ia and graduated from Marquette High School in Bellevue. She later received her Associates Degree as an Administrative Secretary from Clinton Community College in Maquoketa and received a diploma as a Legal Assistant from an International Correspondence School. She married Loras Dunne in August of 1967 in Bellevue, iowa. Three children were born to this union, Sean, Sarah and Steve.
"Patti" was a homemaker when the children were young and later worked various jobs throughout the years. She held many positions as an administrative secretary at law offices in Dubuque, Maquoketa and Madison, Wi. She did volunteer work at the Jackson County DHS and at St. Joseph's Elementary school. She was a group leader for the Campfire Girls of America and a den mother for the cub scouts in Bellevue. She was the president of organizations such as the Maquoketa Business and Professional Women and the Future Business Leaders of America/Phi Beta Lambda at Clinton Community College. She served the Sacred Heart Parish in Maquoketa as a liturgy committee chairperson for one year and a music liturgy chairperson for three years.
"Patti" was of the Catholic faith and had attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellevue where she was active in the choir. Upon moving to Maquoketa 20 years ago, she began attending Sacred Heart Catholic Church. she enjoyed crocheting, baking and traveling with her long-time friend, Dana.
Those left to honor her memory include her children and grandchildren, Sean Dunne of Maquoketa, IA and his son Joseph, Sarah Huemoeller of Sun Prairie, WI and her children Samantha and William, and Steve (Sarah) Dunne of Dubuque, IA and his children Michael and Ashley; and a sister, Mary Jeanne (Larry) Rechtfertig of San Diego, Ca. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson Michael.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Mary P. "Patti" Dunne memorial fund has been established.
