Leon Vogel

KEOTA-Leon Vogel, age 95, of Keota, died Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at his home.
Leon was born March 2, 1924, in rural Harper, to Z. Victor and Clara (Horras) Vogel and graduated from Keota High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On September 8, 1948, he married Rita Weber at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Harper. The couple lived and farmed in the Keota area until retiring in 1984. Leon was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and a former member of the Keota Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling, pepper club, homemade ice cream, the Iowa Hawkeyes and golfing.
Survivors include six children: Gary (Emmilee) Vogel of Iowa City, Dan Vogel of Keota, Elaine (Dean) Finley of Winthrop, Maine, Susan (Alan) Byerly of Washington, Patrick (Robyn) Vogel of Keota and Mary Vogel of Keota; grandson: Chris Vogel; two great grandsons: Zeno and Zander; two brothers: Dale Vogel of Northridge, California and Jerry Vogel of Tallahassee, Florida; sister: Carol Vogel of Cary, North Carolina and special friend: Laura Vogel of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Rita; two sisters: Dolores Weber and Donna Bennett and two brothers: Eugene Vogel and Wayne Vogel.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 4:00 p.m.
