Phyllis Fandel
September 26, 1926 - April 27, 2019

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. A rosary beginning at 4:30 PM and a Scripture Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM.

Phyllis Gwendolyn Fandel was born on September 26, 1926, in Greenville, IA the daughter of Norman and Tracy (Heien) Crawford. Phyllis graduated from Algona High School in 1944. Following high school, she attended Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing where she received her nursing degree in 1948 thru the US Cadet Nurses Corps.

Phyllis worked as a Registered Nurse from 1967-1971 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She then worked as the Nursing Home Administrator at the West Bend, IA Care Center from 1971-1991.

On June 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Francis M. Fandel in Whittemore, Iowa. They made their home in Whittemore.

Phyllis endured much throughout her life; but her strong will and strong faith enabled her to remain a positive person. She was always open to anyone that came to her. Family was everything to Phyllis and she truly loved spending time with all her grandchildren.

She believed it was vital to keep her mind exercised and alert. Phyllis was engaged in a lifetime of learning in a variety of ways, particularly through her love of reading and puzzles. She also enjoyed playing card, traveling with her husband, and baking. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Rosary Society, CDA, and Centennial Women's Club of Whittemore.

Phyllis died Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. She was 92.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Linda (Curt) Vaudt of Whittemore, Dale (Sue) Fandel of Tega Cay, SC, Roxanne Krieps of Sexton, Norman (Tammie) Fandel of Jefferson, Mark Fandel of Milan, MI, Jan (Mike) Capesius of Lu Verne, Phillip (Wanda) Fandel of Bowie, TX; daughter-in-law, Jan Fandel. 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren. Sister Nancy Geres. Sisters-in-law Marian Youngwirth and Ilene Fandel. Many nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Francis in 2001. Daughter Diane in 1953, Son David in 2019, Son-in-law Jack Krieps. Sisters Joan (Tom) Schuller and Gloria (Gene) Rochleau.
