Phyllis Romaine Beard, age 92 of Mingo, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Newton Healthcare. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mingo United Methodist Church with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorials may be directed to the Mingo Auxiliary or the Mingo United Methodist Church. The daughter of Glen Harold and Bernice Velma (Thomas) Hindman, Phyllis was born on August 20, 1926 at her grandparents' home northeast of Newton. Phyllis graduated from Macksburg High School and had 1 ½ years of further education at the Nurse Cadet Corps at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. On February 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Beard at the Methodist Church in Newton. She was a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church and the Mingo Auxiliary Post #534.
Those left to honor her memory include her three children, Diana (Lowell) Halfhill, Ronald (Sandy) Beard, and Tom (Carol) Beard; six grandchildren, Debra (John) Pekarek, Michael (Jeanette) Halfhill, Brian Beard, Jared (Rachael) Beard, Jamie (Sean) Kelley and Brandon Powell; eight great grandchildren, Cassidy and Logan Pekarek, Carter Beard, Cole Beard, Ethan and Johanna Halfhill, Kaitlyn and Conner McBride; and three siblings, Max (Carol) Hindman, Marion (Lana) Hindman and Sherry (Richard) Mann. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; a brother, Harold Hindman and two sisters, Dauryne Berch and Betty Woodard.
