"As Grandma Ebba used to say, when God made "Aunt" Lois, He threw away the mould. I can think of no one like her. She was smart, independent, funny, decisive, practical, very detailed, and at 99 still had an excellent memory. And the stories she could tell! Recent correspondence with her usually included a family memory which I loved to read. As the last family member of her generation, she remembered when and where it all happened. Her practicality was flavored with a little sentimentality. Over the years she shared a few family keepsakes, including a set of Swedish mugs. None of our generation speaks it, that I know of, but we know the story of the Johnson family coming to America from Sweden in the late 1800s. In her younger years, she was also the family caretaker as she was one of the few of her generation who remained in the Burlington area. She ran weekly errands for older relatives for many years. My mother regarded her not as a cousin, but as a close sister. My father loved visiting with her as well and looked forward to their annual visits. As young couples, Mom, Dad, Aunt Lois, and Uncle Jack shared a duplex and enjoyed having each other close by. Lynn, Julie, and Jay, I will miss your mother greatly and am thankful for her life. Much love to you all. Laura Moodie "
