John Phillips, 97, of Burlington died 10:56 p.m. May 12, 2019 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born September 10, 1921 in Valley City, Illinois he was the son of Charles Andrew and Carrie Pauline Phillips. He married Edith Charlene Patton on September 4, 1948 in Burlington. She died July 23, 2016.
John served in the Army during WWII. He worked in construction and farming his entire life.
He loved Allis-Chalmers tractors, caring for Hereford Cattle and spending time with his family.
Survivors include one son, Greg Phillips of Arizona; five grandchildren including Aaron (Natalie) Phillips, Ryan (Tiffany) Phillips and Kim Phillips; 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Alan, two brothers Roy and Toby and one sister Violet.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Mr. Phillips will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18th at Claypoole Cemetery, rural Burlington. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 17th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
