John Edward Green
July 25, 1930 - May 18, 2019

John Edward Green, age 88 of Newton, died Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City Christian Church. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. A general memorial fund has been set up in John's name and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Frank and Louise (Pulver) Green, John was born on July 25, 1930 in Sandyville, Iowa. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1948. On September 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Lavera Kinart at the Christian Church in Prairie City. He farmed in the Prairie City area until he moved to Newton in 1989. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. John was also quite the cook.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lavera; three children, Karla (Russ) Sukut, Chris (Linette) Green, and Janet (Greg) Townley; 12 grandchildren, Christopher (Brooke) Farver, Katie (Jeremy) Davis, James (Rebecca) Frank, Marissa (John) Sharbaugh, Jessica (Devin) Hackler, Andrew (Paige) Parsons, Jon Sukut, Dustin Green, Jennifer (Tyler) Dahms, Mitchell Green, Megan Townley, and Hanna Townley; 11 great grandchildren; a sister Elise Mendenhall and several nieces and nephews. Preceding John in death were his parents; a grandson, Timothy Townley; a brother, Melvin Green and a sister, Marge Colston.
