"So sorry to hear of Ron's passing. He and I were in the same homeroom through out High School. He was always upbeat with a great sense of humor. He loved to kid around which made our days so much fun. I will miss him and his great smile. I am sure he left you with many wonderful memories.

Ronald Lewis Alfred age 78 passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. A gathering of family and friends will be 4-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way Ames, Iowa.
Ron was born April 21, 1941 in Ames, Iowa the son of Erwin and Mabel Alfred. He graduated from Ames High School and attended Iowa State University. He married Janice Meyer on May 20, 1967. Ron started his career selling carpet to retail stores representing carpet manufacturers. In 1986 he and Janice purchased a floor covering store and started Alfred's Carpet and Decorating located on Lincoln Way in Ames.
In 1990 Ron bought some farmland in Wayne County, Iowa starting what would become a full-time job raising registered black Angus cattle. A true sportsman, Ron loved everything outdoors and built many ponds on his farms which he stocked with fish and spent many hours fishing them with Janice and their children and grandchildren. He loved fly fishing and tied many of his own flies. In 2005 Ron sold his herd and retired from farming. Ron enjoyed politics, Iowa State football and basketball, action movies and keeping in touch with his family and friends.
Ron is survived by his spouse, Janice Alfred, his daughter, Michelle Rasmussen and her boys, Wyatt, Cameron and Cael, his son, Jeff (Kelly) and their children Erin, Emily and Evan. A brother, Larry (Betsy) Alfred and a sister Connie (Doug) Lidster and nieces and nephews.
