In loving memory of

Kathleen Agnes Alexander
October 17, 1944 - May 31, 2019

Kathleen "Kate" Alexander, 74, of Davie, FL, passed away on May 31st at her home.

Kate was born in Queens, NY to Patrick and Patricia McGee on October 17th, 1944. A graduate of St. John's University, Kate became a lifelong educator until her retirement from the Broward County school system after over 30 years teaching at multiple institutions, including Nova High, Western High, and Seagull Alternative High School; as well as various adult education centers where she taught ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

Never one to rest, Kate was active in the Florida Renaissance Festival and The American Sewing Guild. She was also an accomplished painter and sculptor; and frequently volunteered for the Broward County Library, Broward Teachers Union, and retired teachers organizations. An avid amature fencer in her youth, Kate medaled in countless events, including the Florida Sunshine State Games. In 1976, she competed in the Olympic trials where she earned a spot as an alternate.

Bestowed the moniker "Kate the Great" by her many friends, she was a loving, compassionate lady who found great satisfaction through giving to others, especially those closest to her. She will be sorely missed by us all.

Kate was predeceased by her father Patrick and brother Pat. She is survived by her children, Tamara and Keith; brothers Donald and Max; sisters Margaret, Mary Ellen, Sara, Theresa, and Suzanne; as well as her mother, Patricia, and two grandchildren, Jacob and Sarah.

In lieu of formal services, Kate's wishes were for a celebration, which will be scheduled in early July. Details will be posted on her Facebook page or email your contact info to Superchunk5000@yahoo.com and you will be notified.
