Sarah Malone Cortino
February 15, 1934 - June 3, 2019

Murphy, TX - Sarah Jeanette Malone Cortino, 85, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019, at Lynridge Assisted Living which is located in Murphy, Texas. Sarah was born on February 15th, 1934 Weir, Mississippi to Alton Henry Malone and Sarah Gladys Taylor Malone.

The family moved to Edcouch in 1938 where Sarah grew up with her six siblings. After graduating from Edcouch Elsa Highschool, Sarah married her high school sweetheart, John Cortino Jr. on July 1, 1952. They had three sons, Richard, Mitchel, and Vincent. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Pan American University in 1966 and began a career in education. Sarah taught school in for thirty years at P.S.J.A. school district, Ford Elementary. She adored the children and teaching was Sarah's passion.

She also enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, and quilting. Sarah was an avid reader, but most important in her life was faith in Christ. Sarah was very active in the First Baptist Church of Pharr and taught youth Sunday school for many years.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Alton Henry and Sarah Gladys Malone, husband of 54 years, John Cortino Jr., and son, Vincent, sisters, Doris Marie Stewart Skilbred, Mildred Anne Jones, and Margarie Louise Malone.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Cortino and his wife, Nora, Mitchel Cortino, granddaughters, Mitchelle, Stephanie and Sarah Lisa Cortino, and grandson, Danny Cortino, sisters, Gladys Dorothea Gilbert, Barbara Karen Morgan, and brother, Warren Eugene Malone.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7th, 5-7pm, and Saturday, June 8th, 10-12pm at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 8th, at 3 pm at Highland Memorial Park.
