Eva Irene Arends
January 9, 1926 - June 7, 2019

Eva Arends, 93, of Dumont, Iowa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2019. She passed away at the Dumont Wellness Center where she had lived since 2013.

Eva Irene Etzen was born January 9, 1926, in rural Kesley to John and Grace (Tjebkes) Etzen. She attended the Little Yellow Schoolhouse and Dumont School. Eva accepted Christ as her personal savior as a young girl in Sunday school.

On February 1, 1945, Eva married Siebert Arends at the Dumont Reformed Church parsonage. To this union two children, Gloria and Virgil, were born.

They lived on the farm in the Dumont, Bristow and Greene areas their entire married life until Siebert passed away in 1977. Eva then moved into Dumont and worked as the church janitor for ten years and a housekeeper at the nursing home for twenty-four years.

Eva loved working beside Siebert with all the farm work, raising chickens for eggs and was known for her homemade bread. She also enjoyed tea-time with friends and family get-togethers. Her family was everything to her.

Eva was a lifelong member of the Dumont Reformed Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the ladies' guild and taught Sunday school for thirty-one years.

Eva is survived by her daughter-in-law Terry Arends of Dumont; grandchildren Wendy (Paul) Cronan of Waterloo, Leann (Jim) Aukes of Bristow, Jamie (Zach) Harken of Clarksville and Steve (Jenny) Cunningham Jr. of Waterloo; great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Cronan; son-in-law Steve (Bobbie) Cunningham Sr.; sisters-in-law Laura Gail Etzen and RoseAnn Etzen; brother-in-law Gene Brass and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Siebert; daughter Gloria Cunningham in 1973; son Virgil Arends in 2016; sister Berdene Brass; brothers Joe, Harvey and Andrew Etzen; foster brother George Rutter; sisters-in-law Vi Etzen, Ann Etzen, Irene Etzen, Tudy Brass and Elizabeth Nolte; brothers-in-law Wallace Nolte and John Arends; nephews Lowell Etzen, Steve Etzen, Gerry Bryan and Doug Crossett and niece Evelyn Etzen.
