Edward "Ed" A. Lewon
March 3, 1936 -

Edward "Ed" A. Lewon, 83, of Jackson, NE passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at a Sioux City hospital following a short battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newcastle, NE. Burial with military rites by the Newcastle American Legion Post #62 will be in the Newcastle Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 17, 2019 at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.

Ed was born March 3, 1936 in Coleridge, NE, the son of Fred and Sylva (Stejskal) Lewon. He grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He then returned to Newcastle to farm with his brother, Jim and his father, Fred, then later moved to the Jackson/Willis area. He married VaLoy Bensen and they were blessed with a son. Ed was a seed corn salesman, owner/operator of the Jackson storage units, and worked as a dispatcher at the Dixon County Sheriff's Office for many years.

He was a member of the Congregational Church in Newcastle and the Newcastle American Legion Post #62. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and coin collecting.

Survivors include his son, Jeff Lewon (Angela Chapman) of Jefferson, SD; grandchildren, Midori and Malia Weinandt; sister, Doris (Ray) Hinz of Newcastle, NE; sister-in-law, Mary Lewon of Laurel, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Sylva Lewon; brother, James Lewon; and sisters, Luella Harder and Annie Lamprecht.
