In loving memory of

Thomas Michael Panella
June 10, 1951 - August 23, 2018

Thomas Michael Panella, 67, of Dripping Springs, Tx went to heaven on August 21, 2018. He was born to the late Nicholas and Mary Panella, June 10, 1951 in Washington D.C. He was one of four siblings; Nicholas Panella, Bernard Panella and Patricia Panella Buckler. He graduated from St. Johns College High School in Washington D.C. before pursuing his passion for all things music and travel.
His younger years were spent in the beautiful area of Alexandria,Virginia where his love for the Washington Redskins began. He would often watch the pre-season practice games with his father and later went on to attend many games. Despite a rocky "Redskins" record over the years, he never lost faith in his favorite team and religiously watched every game, cheering them on from his living room with passion and pride.
He picked up his first pair of drumsticks around the age of 10, which sparked a lifelong passion for music. In his young teens, Tom was flown to Nashville to record with Kris Kristoffersen and then went on to work with the late great guitarist Danny Gatton in performance and recording with "Danny and the Fat Boys." Tom spent years in the D.C. music scene playing for many artists. Long time locals remember Tommy as the drummer for "The Magic Reign," a popular rock group. After high school Tom and fellow musicians headed west to sunny California, securing a recording contract with RCA records and experiencing the life changing San Francisco music scene of the early 70's. It was in Southern California that Tom chose to pursue a life of faith in Jesus. After California, Tom ventured to Israel, where he fell in love with the country, and formed some life-long friendships. Playing music was Tom's greatest passion and he continued to focus on it throughout his life. Austin, was the ideal spot for Tom to call home, as Austin is nicknamed "The Live Music Capital of the World" Tom was fortunate to play with some great bands in Austin including the "Southern Sparrows" and "EB's Funk Bunch" who he was still actively playing with until his passing.

Tommy spent hundreds of hours donating his time and talents to numerous charities and fundraisers such as The Bridge of Angels Homeless Ministry, Women Rock Austin, The Humane Society, St. Jude and Hill Country Bible Church.

Although music was his passion, he achieved great success in his career as a natural products sales professional and innovator, holding executive positions at numerous companies including Arrowhead Mills, Kashi Cereal, Soft Gel Technologies and later starting his own business- J Nutraceuticals. He brought his passion for health into every business endeavor he ventured in, and made lifelong friends throughout the natural foods industry.

Above all things his children and grandchildren were his greatest priority. His entire face would light up at the sight of one his grandchildren. He loved seeing life through their eyes and made sure to be a part of every important moment along the way. His love and support for each of us will live in our hearts forever.

Thomas is survived by his two loving children: Adena Murrey (Kevin) and Josiah Panella (Morgan) and his grandchildren Susie Cormack; Chase and Emma Murrey; Eden and Knox Panella.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 29, 2018.

"Tommy was a beautiful soul and I'm honored to have had some special times with him. He comforted me and really empathized with me when I was at an all-time low after my sister's passing. His zest and passion for family, God, and music was contagious, and he helped expand my horizons when I felt they were beginning to collapse. I will carry Tommy's passion with me, and will do my best to honor him when in the presence of others needing uplifting. Many prayers and blessings to his family whom he cherished so dearly."
