In loving memory of

Gloria Ann Walton
July 30, 1934 - November 7, 2015

Gloria Walton went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the age of 81. She was born on July 30, 1934, the second of three beautiful daughters. She was preceded in death by her mother, Renez Louvier Picou and father, Norris Picou, and brother in law, Elton Wilson.
Glorias family was the light of her life. She is survived by her four children & their spouses, John Michael & Kathy Walton, LeAnn Walton Smith, James Gary & Dina Walton, and William Dennis & Susan Walton; two sisters, Barbara Wilson, Peggy Snoek and husband, Robert.
She was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Amanda Walton-Jimenez & Matthew, Lauren Smith, Travis Smith, Gail Walton-Nezvigen & Artem, Timothy Walton, Emily Walton & Lisa, Hunter Walton, Haymanot Walton and Tappen Walton, and many great grandchildren.
She met her high school sweetheart, John C. Walton at Kirbyville High School. After graduating, the couple was married on December 28, 1952 at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas. As a military family they raised their four children in several locations in the United States as well as in Germany.
Gloria moved to Onion Creek in Austin in 1980 and was blessed with many close and caring friends. Upon her retirement from the State Commission on Fire Prevention she opened a craft shop in Wimberly, Texas called The Wishing Tree where she created beautiful crafts and holiday decorations. She also sewed and cared for the pets of friends in the Onion Creek community. After the floods there last year, she went door-to-door offering help and bringing food and water to her neighbors just one example of her heart for always helping others in need. Her signature gifts of a joyful smile and generous heart were seen in her cute nose wiggles, blowing kisses and putting them in her pocket, and that twinkle in her eye!
The heart of the Walton family, Gloria shaped their lives by tireless nurturing and sacrificial giving the hallmark of her life. With a true zest for living, she loved to cook, entertain, sew, craft, read and play games/cards (especially with her grandchildren), chat with friends and family, and travel. She also enjoyed art, science, walking and swimming. Gloria loved America and always displayed her patriotism in her decorations, clothes and support of our veterans.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at the Windrock Villas in Onion Creek, Austin, Texas on Saturday, November 14 at 1pm. For additional information, please go to www.harrellfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in her honor, as this was very dear to her heart.
Our family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support. A special heartfelt thank you to Leah Van Beek and the staff at Silverado Memory Care Community in Austin, for their sweet and loving care these past 12 months. Our desire is that this tribute to the memory of our loving mother will be carried on in the legacy of love which mom imparted to each of us the lives she formed and touched by her love.

"Glo was indeed one of the most incredible women I have been blessed to have known. Everywhere I look I see and remember her kindness, her generosity, her caring, her creativity, the delicious foods she made for us when I had surgery. Glo will also be remembered by the members of Austin Bible Church. When our new church was built she helped me select the oilcloth and made "umpteen" number of tablecloths which have been used continuously for many years. They still look new....she didn't do anything halfway. Then when we had our first Women's Retreat Glo designed Bible bags and gave several ladies the pattern. She helped us select the fabrics along with her special designs of trim. Glo supported me when I became a Red Hatter. I have soooo many hats, purses, scarves. I was the envy of many of our Red Hat group. I first knew of "the little French lady" when we had the annual garage sale on the vacant lot by the service road in Onion Creek. I was helping neighbors. I glanced at her booth with all the beautiful designer pillows and creations she had made. I determined I was going to visit her there when I finished helping my neighbors. Well, she disappeared and no one I asked knew anything except she was a "little French lady". Several years later I saw a small ad in the Onion Creek newsletter for pet sitting. I had a Dalmatian named Jewels and wanted to travel with my husband before he retired as a airline captain. To my total delight I found Glo. She then "glowed" in my life blessing me beyond what I can ever say. She also blessed many critters, too. The only thing that I was able to give Glo was peanut brittle which she always packed up and sent to Gary and his men in Afghanistan. I will see her again in Heaven. God is so great, and He outdid himself when he made Glo. I will always have a special place in my heart for her. What a Lady....what a dear, dear friend. Lavona McFerren"
