In loving memory of

Selma Louella Pape
October 9, 1944 - May 2, 2014

Selma Louella Pape, 69, of Austin Texas passed away on May 2, 2014. Selma was born in Elgin, Texas on October 9, 1944 to Lou Ella Hodge and George Washington Taylor Wade. Selma worked for the State of Texas for 45 years. She began her career in 1969 with the State Comptrollers Office that was housed at the time in the basement of the Capitol. She worked for the Comptrollers Office until she left the agency on April 7, 2014. Her career was spent within the Revenue Administration umbrella and she devoted over 40 years of service to the State of Texas. She was a multi-talented individual who enjoyed decorating for holiday events, parties, and weddings. Sometimes her Christmas trees would adorn her home year round with elaborate themes. One of her favorite past times was searching antique stores for that unique item to add to her growing collection. Lately, she especially enjoyed finding that special chair with intricate designs and then restoring the piece to its original beauty. Selma was a people person and loved to be a part of a good joke. She developed many life-long friends. She was a devoted mother and loving grandmother. Selma was a Christian woman who led by example. She often spoke with individuals and groups of people about her healing experience and how The Lord had impacted her life. Selmas testimony will remain with all of us. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lou Ella and Taylor Wade; and her brother George Washington Wade Jr. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Calvin George Pape, her daughter and son-in-law, Lavanda and Robert Gillum of Arkansas, and by her grandchildren, Dustin Tramel and wife Tiffinee of Arkansas; Jared Tramel; Nicole Gillum; Blane Gillum; and Joshua Gillum of Arkansas; great grandchildren Taylor Tramel; Gavin Tramel; and Brooklyn Tramel of Arkansas, her brother Roy Hodge and wife Ruth of Cherokee; her brother John Wade of Burnet; her sister Wanda Saucier and husband Robert of Deer Park; nephew Dennis Hodge of Austin, and nieces Wendy Wright and husband Daniel of Oklahoma, and Sheena Stewart of San Leon. "I'm so sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest sympathy. May you find comfort from your memories, as well as Gods word the bible. Why do people we love die? Romans 5:12 says: "That is why, just as through one man (Adam) sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned." How loving of God to promise what is found at Revelation 21:4 which says, And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

"Selma, I can not think of you in the past, but only in the present. You are and always will be in my heart. You are a very special sister and I love you lots. Of all the sisters in the world I am blessed to have you. We have laughed, we have cried, we have fought over the craziest things in our younger years, but we had fun growing up. We have our special little secrets that we would never tell. You are the best sister and the most beautiful woman..Sometimes in the early morning and the quiet of the night, I get to thinkings of our times we spent together and I have to turn and brush the tears from my eyes for I know you are in Heaven. Calvin & Lavanda You all are in our thoughts and prayers. I ask God to cover you with his precious Holy Spirit during this time."

"We have only known Selma for one year but we feel we have known her for so much longer. She was always so caring and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. I will think of her often and will be looking forward to seeing her again, and like Zack had made mention of her in his prayers, (he called her Aunt Selma) because that was who she was, she made all of us feel like family. We are saddened about her passing and we will remember her family in prayer. Love always, The Greg Wright family"

"I would have to say that Selma was a class act. I feel privileged to have known her and to work under her on the KFI Project while working at the Comptroller's office. I had only seen her a few times after retiring in December 2009. It is good that she is going to be buried in Arkansas, for she talked a lot about how pretty Arkansas was. My heart, my thoughts and my prayers go out to Calvin, Lavanda and the rest of the family. Selma, may you rest in peace.....Sandra"
