I also remember talking to him about his ranch/farm and especially the beloved long horns. When my husband and I first moved to Austin we rented a duplex on Dexter St. not far from where J.R. and his wife lived. Benny & Merry Kirkendoll wrote on Sep 15, 2013:

"It has been our privilege to sit next to JR and Flo for so many years at the Longhorns football games. Some of those meetings were very delightful, particularly when we won the game; We shared many things in common, our age, our graduation from high school year, a yearning to see as much of God's world as time would permit. I so appreciated his thoughtful calls just to check on us and to see if we're doing all right. We will miss him.Benny & Merry Kirkendoll"
