Dale R. Menke
February 27, 1946 - July 6, 2019

A funeral Mass for Dale Menke, 73, of Burt, was held at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carter Stott VFW Post 5236 of Burt.

Dale Ronald Menke was born February 27, 1946, in Buffalo Center, son of Albin and Sylvia (Goche) Menke. He grew up on a farm northwest of Bancroft graduating from St. John's Catholic School in 1964. Dale served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam proudly serving in the Seabee Battalion. He then returned home where he farmed a short time with his father. He was married to Sue Tague on August 24, 1968, at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. They moved to Illinois for three years returning to area making their home in Burt. He worked for Build-A-Rama and Johnny Groen Carpentry. In 1977, he opened Dale Menke Construction working until his retirement in 1992. He also enjoyed helping his son around his farmstead.

Dale enjoyed camping and playing cards especially cribbage, he loved pestering his three grandchildren and he loved spending his winters in Arizona. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters since 1946 service as Secretary since 1976 and he received the Foresters Legion of Honor in November of 1977. Dale served on the Burt Fire Department for 12 years (1980-1992), and he served on the Burt City Council for four years. He was a member of the Carter Stott VFW Post 5236 which he was the Commander for many years and he was also the 6th District Commander of the VFW for 6 years. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.

Dale R. Menke died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 6th, 2019 at the age of 73.

He is survived by his wife Sue; his son Steven P. Menke; his daughter Amie Menke all of Burt; and three grandchildren, Joshua Howland, and Rorrie and Wren Menke. He is also survived by two brothers, Duane (Barbara) Menke of San Clarita, CA and Glen (Becky) Menke of Marion; his brother and sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Roger) Duffy of Centerville, OH, Jerry Hupp of Mankato, MN, and Rita Cue of Manson; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
