Kathryn A. Happel
July 12, 1928 - July 7, 2019

Kathryn A. Happel, 90, of Hampton, formerly of Latimer, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

She was born July 12, 1928, in rural Butler County, Iowa, to George and Rosa (Jepsen) Folkerts. Kathryn was baptized on June 2, 1929. She attended country school in Butler County and then attended high school for four years in Bristow, graduating with the class of 1946.

Kathryn attended Wartburg College in Waverly for one year and taught three years in Butler County Rural Schools. She then furthered her education at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Kathryn taught kindergarten in Jesup for three years and second grade in Hampton for one year.

She was united in marriage to Paul Happel on September 17, 1955. They lived on a farm near Latimer until August of 1997 when they retired to Hampton. Kathryn joined St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer, sang in the choir and was a member of LWML and LLL. She was also active in Franklin County Farm Bureau Women, Franklin County Hospital Auxiliary and the Senior Center.

Kathryn is survived by her husband Paul Happel of Hampton, daughter Betty Hussey of Omaha, Nebraska, sister Fern Lindvall of Atlantic, granddaughter Christina Bernal of Omaha, Nebraska, great-grandchildren Martin, AnĂ¡li, Rosemary Bernal and Emilia Devore of Omaha, Nebraska, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Keith Happel and brothers Calvin and Robert Folkerts.
