Irene Ruth Laabs was born on July 7, 1921 in rural Fenton, daughter of Reinhold and Martha (Mienke) Laabs. She grew up in Fenton graduating from Fenton High School in 1939.

On December 19, 1942, she was united in marriage to Virgil Wolf in Fenton. They were blessed with eight children. Irene wasn't interested in materials things, but valued what was most important in life, her family. She loved them dearly and never hesitated to put her children first. There was no better way to show this devotion to them than by being a stay at home mom.

Irene loved gardening and canning vegetables. She also enjoyed baking bread, copying recipes, and crossword puzzles. Her faith was important. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Irene died Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Algona Manor Care Center. She was 97.

Irene is survived by her children, Leroy (Linda) Wolf of Forest City, Martha "Sis" Wolf of Clear Lake, Joseph (Shirley) Wolf of Ohio, Vincent "Bud" (Connie) Wolf of Mineral, VA, Helene "Mickey" Wolf of Algona, Donald (Kristy) Wolf of Pilot Mound; and Mary (Earl) Thompson of Algona; sons-in-law, Brian Bowman and Mike Hall; 36 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
