Douglas "Doug" Ackerson
November 28, 1948 - July 9, 2019

A funeral service for Doug will be 10:30 Friday at Lotts Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Lone Rock. Visitation will begin on Thursday afternoon from 5 to 8 PM at the Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Douglas "Doug" Ackerson was born on November 28, 1948 in Algona, the son of Marvin and Esther (Luedtke) Ackerson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fenton. He grew up in Fenton graduating from Sentral School in 1967. Following high school he attended Iowa Lakes Community College for two years. He then worked a short time at Bruhn Builders before going to work for Hormel in Algona for 40+ years. He retired from Hormel in 2011.

On June 24, 1972, he was united in marriage to Janet Schipull at the United Methodist Church in Wesley. They moved to rural Lone Rock where they lived for 42 years and raised their two daughters, Jill and Stacy. Four years ago they moved into the town of Lone Rock.

Doug was a pretty private man, but he possessed a congenial personality that enabled him to make friends with everyone he met. Doug enjoyed fishing and hunting and had a love for the outdoors and nature. He also enjoyed 50s and 60s music and attending concerts with his wife, Jan, and friends. He was a history buff and enjoyed watching the history channel. Doug especially loved retirement where he could spend more time with his greatest love, his family. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and enjoyed attending all of their events. His dog, Taffy, also held a special place in his heart.

Doug died July 9, 2019, at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona under the care of the Hospice of the Heartland. He was 70.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Janet "Jan" of Lone Rock; daughters, Jill (Chad) Heinen of Lone Rock and their children Jay, Becca, and Max; Stacy (Todd) Vaske of Bancroft and their children Levi, Lexi and Zane.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Marvin and Esther Ackerson; granddaughter, Zoey Jean Vaske; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Cecelia (Nemmers) Ackerson; maternal grandparents, Herman and Helena (Zumach) Luedtke; brother-in-law, Bernard Hansen; sister-in-law, Jennie Heinen; and many aunts and uncles.
