In loving memory of

Perfecto Perez-Martinez
July 27, 1932 - July 9, 2019

Perfecto Perez-Martinez, 86, of Toms River, New Jersey went home to be with the Lord on July 9, 2019.

Perfecto was born to Luis and Maria Perez on July 27, 1932 in the beautiful town of Aibonito, Puerto Rico where he lived humbly with his parents and 8 siblings. At a young age, he learned the importance of working hard and providing for family. When he was 18, he left Puerto Rico to seek work in Michigan and later moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In 1956 Perfecto met the love of his life, Marlene (Brockway) in Wisconsin, and went on to have six children. Together they raised their children in their home in Newark, New Jersey where he worked for the Board of Education as a security guard in Roberto Clemente grade school and McKinley grade school. Upon retirement, they moved to Toms River, New Jersey where he lived out the rest of his life.

In addition to being a hard-worker, his family knew him to be a dedicated husband and father. A very funny, quick witted man who loved family and people in general, always loved on, and was very proud of his children. Perfecto instilled the value of God and Family to them throughout their lives. His love for the Lord was later demonstrated in 1998 when he accepted Christ as his Personal Savior, was baptized, and shortly after joined his home church, Ocean County Baptist.

Predeceased by his parents, and siblings, Felix, Juan, Pedro, Gil, Gladys, Amelia, Alvarita, and Maria Luisa, Perfecto also joins his son, Luis Perez in heaven. He leaves, his wife, Marlene and his children and their spouses, Daniel (Olivia), David (Ana Celia), Maria (Johnny), Michael (Lisa) and Alan (Eve) as well as 11 grandchildren, Janelle, Daniel, Walter, Gabriel, Michael, Mark, Stephen, Jayleen, Jonathon, Alex and Alena, and 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who he had great love for.

Psalm 91:11
For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 15th from 4:00 to 8:00 at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 0875.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Ocean County Baptist Church, 1380 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, NJ 08753.

"Most of the good memories I have from childhood, have something to do with the Perez family. Summer days, with the windows open, I would hear singing all the way from Ridge Street. When Daniel and David were older, there was guitar music and laughter, the sounds of family. I remember pool parties and New Years Eve, and walking thru your front door that was never locked. Walking in to pick up my daughter, Morgin, when she was just a baby, her in the highchair giggling while "Papi" (that's all the kids called him, I don't even think I knew his first name til I was 20) was making a plate at the stove, and talking to her in Spanish. He was just a good person, and that came across in any language and at any age. I am sorry he is gone, I feel lucky to have known him and all of you. Love to you all, Briget."
