Clarence Richard "Dick" Mumma

West Des Moines - Dick was born April 18, 1933, in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Robert J. Mumma and Bernice (Johnson) Mumma. He passed away on July 31, 2019, at age 86, after a courageous fight with cancer.

After graduating from Missouri Valley High School in 1951, Dick spent 37 years with Northwestern Bell and AT&T. He was active in the West Des Moines Jaycees, volunteered with Telephone Pioneers and was a founding member of their clown unit, as well as the Korn Patch Klowns. He enjoyed clowning until he was 85.

In retirement, Dick was inspired by gardening, walking, carpentry, cards, outdoor activities, and sports.

Dick is survived by his wife Marlys; daughter Lisa Mumma (Mike); sons Timothy Mumma (Larry), Mitchell Mumma, and Andrew Mumma (Angie); four grandchildren and several great grandchildren; brothers Robert J. Mumma, Jr, and Daniel B. Mumma; sisters Janet Reed and Ruth Campbell; Step-children Dawn Fish (David), Tammy Sandvig (Doug), and Ted Gilbaugh (Debbie), and six step-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Robert J. and Bernice Mumma and his daughter Cynthia Jo Mumma.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hertko Hollow Diabetic Youth Camp.
