Ronald E. Hilderbrand, 70, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Unity Point Hospital in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Reverend Greg Ellcey will be officiating. Ron was born August 6, 1948, to Robert and Iris Hilderbrand, in Marshalltown. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1966 and then attended MCC and UNI where he received a BA in education. Ron taught education at the State Training School in Eldora, IA. He was united in marriage to Cyndee Russie on August 20, 1984, in Kansas City, MO. Ron was a member of the American Legion Golf Course, Marshalltown American Legion, and Trees & Turf Forever. He was proud to be inducted into the 16 Inch Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1991, a 1966 Bobcat Basketball State Champ, a 1966 State Golf Medalist Champion and is featured on the Wall of Fame at the Marshalltown Roundhouse. Ron enjoyed fishing, golfing, Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs. He loved his dogs, Molly and Mimi, and spending time with his granddaughters, Morgan and Makenzie.
Ron is survived by his wife, Cyndee of Marshalltown; his children, Kip Hilderbrand of Marshalltown, Kody (Wendy) Hilderbrand of Marshalltown; granddaughters Morgan and Makenzie Hilderbrand; brother Robert (Jan) Hilderbrand Jr. of Chandler, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents.

"Ron or Ronnie, as I knew him, grew up with me on the block. He and his family on Boone Street. I was a few hundred yards away on the Harrison Drive Circle. He was one year older than I was and he was somewhat of a hero to me. I knew how good he was at basketball, baseball and football. I could only compete with my speed. I think I actually was able to hold my own with him I have two distinct memories of him. One concerns my unfortunate eye injury that I sustained by playing sandlot baseball in April of 1959. I was 9 and he was 10. I "caught" a thrown in from left field while I was making my way to second. We were playing "double or nothing". I almost made it to second, but the hard ball hit me in my left eye. I remember "Ronnie" taking me home because he was concerned. Keep in mind, he was 10. Then 4 years later, I was running for student council in the 8th grade at the now defunct Central Junior High. He offered to run my campaign for me. I let him. He was so good at it. I did lose, but to this day I remember how he was so kind. And one final thing would be the basketball season that led to our championship in 1966. I was just a scrub playing on the Junior Varsity. He was so talented. I wish condolences to his family. No one is ever really gone as long as they are remembered. And, he will be."
