"Ron, how can in a few words sum up 60 years of friendship? I can't. From caddying, to being partners, to being opponents but we were always friends. In your latest match you took on the big C. Although cancer has played with the same equipment for years it still beats many people, It had you 6 down with 6 to go but you took it to extra holes. I would have expected nothing less as you were the fiercest competitor I have ever known. Cancer has won the match but you will receive a bigger prize. RIP my friend! Mike Casey"

Vaughn Harvey wrote on Aug 5, 2019:

"Ron or Ronnie, as I knew him, grew up with me on the block. He and his family on Boone Street. I was a few hundred yards away on the Harrison Drive Circle. He was one year older than I was and he was somewhat of a hero to me. I knew how good he was at basketball, baseball and football. I could only compete with my speed. I think I actually was able to hold my own with him I have two distinct memories of him. One concerns my unfortunate eye injury that I sustained by playing sandlot baseball in April of 1959. I was 9 and he was 10. I "caught" a thrown in from left field while I was making my way to second. We were playing "double or nothing". I almost made it to second, but the hard ball hit me in my left eye. I remember "Ronnie" taking me home because he was concerned. Keep in mind, he was 10. Then 4 years later, I was running for student council in the 8th grade at the now defunct Central Junior High. He offered to run my campaign for me. I let him. He was so good at it. I did lose, but to this day I remember how he was so kind. And one final thing would be the basketball season that led to our championship in 1966. I was just a scrub playing on the Junior Varsity. He was so talented. I wish condolences to his family. No one is ever really gone as long as they are remembered. And, he will be."
