"I know that I have already left a tribute post but I just have to leave another after going to John's funeral today. I think any of us would just like to have half of the people show up at our own funeral that John did at his. What a well respected and loved man. The line was so long to pay our respects before the service that we had to wait until after the service was over and we got there an hour before the service started and was lucky to get a seat. Mr. White, Turnbal and Castle did a great job of speaking and sharing memories of Mr. Officer. What a well respected family of this community. Mrs. Officer was my kindergarten teacher 36 years ago and one of my personal favorites. She is as sweet and beautiful today as she was then. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Johns family. It was heartbreaking to see the grandchildren crying and obviously missing their grandfather today. He was such a great man. May God bless all and thank you for letting me share a 2nd post tribute."

Jim Romer wrote on Aug 10, 2019:

"Ms. Officer, Julie and other family: I very much enjoyed working with John over the years on a few matters we had together over the years from Fentress County where I practiced with Bill Craven and Hollis Neal, then Steve Rains, Toby Deaton, then Melanie Lane and Amanda Howard until I retired at the end of 2016. John was always a gentleman, did a great job for his clients in the things we worked on, and was a credit to the profession of law. While I was unaware of the wonderful causes he supported, I know his legacy will live on among all the people he touched and the causes he supported. With best wishes and condolences, Jim Romer "

"John was a beloved cousin and dear confidant to my mother Wanda Jean Wilson Petrocy. When my mother moved back to Tennessee as a retiree she and John reconnected through my mother?s responsibility as the co-executor of James Boswell?s estate (the old Officer farm located in Monterey). John was a trusted advisor; he, and my mom rekindled their childhood relationship . A true blessing I believe, for both. May John be reunited with all our loving family members that have gone before us . . . their open arms await us all when our final journey begins. So mote it be."
