Cynthia "Cindy" Sue Clayburn
June 12, 1973 - August 13, 2019
Cindy Clayburn passed away on August 13, 2019 in her home after a yearlong battle with breast and non-smoking lung cancer.
Cindy was the third child and the "happy surprise" born to Grant and Connie Clayburn on June 12, 1973, at Beale Air Force Base in Yuba, California. Cindy was a happy child and made friends easily. During her youth, she played softball and basketball and was a talented athlete. Cindy graduated from Bountiful High School in 1991 and remained close to her friends from high school. Following high school graduation, Cindy and her parents moved to St. George, Utah where Cindy attended Dixie State University for two years. She then transferred to Southern Utah University where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Cindy later received her Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.
Cindy dedicated her life to working with troubled youth. She was an employee for the State of Utah with the Division of Juvenile Justice for twenty-one years. Cindy took pride in her work, loved working with the youth in her community, and enjoyed the friendships she made with the people she worked with.
Cindy met Janetta Galloway the summer of 1998, when they both started their careers with the Division on Juvenile Justice Services. Cindy and Janetta started their life together in June of 2004 and were married on November 8, 2014. They shared fifteen wonderful years together. Cindy loved Janetta dearly, cherishing all of the adventures they shared. They enjoyed traveling, camping, four-wheeling, and spending time with family and friends.
Cindy loved animals and had dogs and cats throughout her life. In fact, some of her first words as a child were "wanna go see Brit," the Clayburn's family dog during Cindy's youth. Cindy and Janetta enjoyed taking their dogs with them in the Jeep or on hikes, and the dogs loved it too. Cindy was often found "stalking" random strangers to say hi to their four-legged fur babies.
Cindy was an avid Broncos fan and looked forward to the regular Bronco breakfasts that she and Janetta took part in with their friends. Women's sports were something that Cindy was proud to support. She was a loyal fan of the Utah Starzz and most recently of the Utah Royals FC, with her favorite player being Gunnhilder Yrsa Jonsdottir aka "Gunny," whom she named her puppy after. Cindy got to meet and visit with "Gunny" a few short months ago, she absolutely loved it!
Cindy was a lover of music and going to concerts. One of her favorite things was finding and listening to good music and sharing it with her niece and her friends. Cindy was incredibly outgoing and friendly and would strike up conversations with just about anyone she came across. She had close friends from every part of her life. Once you became friends with Cindy, you were friends forever. Her friends will most miss her fun personality, her awesome sense of humor, and her ability to make anyone laugh. Cindy was smart as a whip, loyal, strong, tough, giving, and kind. She loved life and the people she shared it with. Cindy "felt like sunshine" and warmed the souls of those around her. She will be missed by so many.
Cindy is preceded in death by her sister Jayna, her parents, and her sweet dog Denali Roy. Cindy is survived by her wife Janetta, her brother Grant Brian (Kaulene), six nieces and nephews, as well as seven great nieces and nephews.

There will a Celebration of Life for Cindy on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Oak Hills Reception Center in the Rustic Barn 2621 Oak Hills Drive, Layton, UT. Interment will be at the Midway City Cemetery on Monday, August 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
