Joyce Rosina (Knudsen) Petersen was born May 30, 1931 in Iowa City to Jens Beck and Elin Marie (Johnson) Knudsen. She lived in Algona all her life. She attended school in Algona through 8th grade, then worked to help support her family.
Joyce meet Donald Petersen while they were both working at the Algona Produce. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1951. She continued to work at the Produce until their first child arrived. She then started doing day care in their home helping to contribute financially to the family and also having four more children.
Joyce enjoyed riding horses when they were first married. She liked bowling and was quite good at it. As their children grew they stayed very busy attending many sporting events. Don and Joyce for many years loved to ride their motorcycle with friends and rode through every state in the U.S. and Canada. Once grandkids arrived she kept busy attending their events. She enjoyed playing many card games and was quite competitive. But her favorite pastime was spending time with her family.
Joyce died at the Algona Manor on Wednesday morning, August 21, 2019.
Survivors include her children, son Rick and wife Teresa on Urbandale Iowa, son Dave and wife Sally of Algona, son Steve and wife Cindy of Algona, daughter Cindy and husband Al of Algona, son Dan and wife Kristi of Polk City Iowa; 12 grandchildren and their spouses; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, brothers; Oliver (Vivian), Robert (Faye), Everett, Alvin and sisters; Margaret (Al), Mary (Fred), Cathy (Ralph).
